Naomi Judd is an American country music singer, songwriter, and actress. She is best known for her work as part of the mother-daughter duo The Judds, with her daughter Wynonna Judd. She has won five Grammy Awards and has sold over 20 million albums worldwide. Naomi was born in Ashland, Kentucky, and grew up in a large family of seven children. She attended college at the University of Tennessee, where she studied nursing. After college, she worked as a nurse in Los Angeles and then moved to Nashville to pursue a career in music. In 1983, Naomi and Wynonna formed The Judds and released their debut album, Why Not Me. The album was a huge success, selling over five million copies and earning the duo five Grammy Awards. The Judds went on to release seven more albums, all of which were certified platinum or multi-platinum. In 1991, Naomi retired from performing due to a diagnosis of Hepatitis C. She has since become an advocate for the disease and has written two books about her experience. Naomi has also acted in several films and television shows, including the television series Nashville.
