Ronald Wayne Shelton is an American director and screenwriter and a former minor league baseball player. Shelton is known for the many sports films he has made. His 1988 film Bull Durham, based in part on his own baseball experience, earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. A former minor league baseball midfielder in the Baltimore ranch system, he played with the Bluefield Orioles, Stockton Ports, Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs and Rochester Red Wings from 1967 to 1971.
